We're considering making a pond, and if we do, how many gallons would it need for 10-20 koi and 30-40 goldfish? Thanks.

Probably 2000g minimum, preferably larger. I don't have any pond experience, but from what others have posted for Jfish, it looks like they need quite a bit of space.

Kinda thought it would be big. Plus, it would cost a lot for a fence too, because our dogs, Beau and Luke (my avatar), would have lots of fun fishing.

I don't have any pond experience either, but given the enormous adult size of koi and that fact that most standard in ground swimming pools are about 10,000 gallons, I'd say at least 30,000 gallons for that many of them. And if you're talking about common goldfish, they would probably add quite a bit to that. I'm curious...why so many? To me a pond with just 5-10 koi and a handful of common goldfish would be very impressive.

| A general rule is 32 inches per 1000 gallons. These fish easily go over 24 inches in a few years. I've also read 1 square yard per fish. They need lots of room and are fairly active.
