| can i keep mushrooms under a flourescent single bulb lighting system or do i need metal halides the tank is quite shallow about 11 inches.

A single bulb seems too low to me, but a twin tube fluorescent should be fine. I have mine under PCs, so they definitely don't need MH.

In 11" of water, you may get away with the single for some mushrooms but I agree with Hailey, a double would be better. Metal halides would be overkill (maybe literally) for mushrooms. The only mushrooms that require high intensity lighting are ricordea, and even then MH over 11" of water would probably be extreme.
So many species, so little money!

Iv bin keeping mushrooms in a 55 gal. with 4 standerd 48 inch t12 bulbs 2 actinic 03 and 2 daylight and have gone from 3 to 15 mushrooms in about 5 months . thay can grow fast
55 gal. reef tank29 gal with 29 gal sump farming tank look at them grow
