That's an incredible price for them!

She breeds several types of shrimp. She has more than she knows what to do with so she is trying to get rid of them.

That's great. I know what you mean by having too many of them. One of the other shrimps that I wholesale is called a "Blueberry" and when they come in they are colored exactly like a blueberry. Problem is -- the color is either a dye or because of what they were being fed, since they lose the color in a month or so. However, they breed like crazy, and whenever I go to put, say, a dozen in a bag for a lfs there are always all kinds of babies -- no color however.

I never seen blueberry shrimp before. Strange that they lose their color so quickly.

I know it's a great deal that's why I want to jump at it. But jumping to buy animals you know very little about often turns out to be more trouble than it's worth. I really want to restrain myself from starting another tank up. I have a 90 empty right now with a crack in it and the Wife is not going to go for the "just one more tank" excuse.

We live in a condo and although it's fairly large space it limited. I have agreed to buy 6 of them for now. If I can't keep them the person selling them will take them back. (no refund of course) While they sit in quarantine I'm going to try to get my questions answered and learn as much as I can about them. I would rather lose my money then risk any harm to the fish or shrimp.

Stuff from the breeders in the Far East is often "colored up", with hormones, foods or whatever. When it comes to discus, they give the excuse that they want to see what the adults will look like, when in reality they just want to be able to charge ridiculous prices for their fish. I don't know whether it is food or hormones that make the shrimps blue, but their kids are colorless -- or rather the same color as Amano shrimp.

Right now my left hand tank on my desk, which is a 12 gallon All-In-One, has a dozen or so Galaxy Rasboras aka Celesial Pearl Danios, a yo yo botia, a few bamboo shrimps and a mess of cherry reds and pale blueberry shrimps. Everyone seems to be getting along fine, there are plenty of plants, and there are already small shrimps in the tank. It's gonna be interesting to see what develops.

In case anyone wondering Discus do eat RCS . I threw one in my 46 today and he didn't make half way down the tank. Poor little guy.  The others are in a 5 gallon with some HM (pearl weed) and some Christmas moss for now.

I found this article about the blue shrimp. It reforces what you already know about the color David.
