I have a few plants and they all seem healthy except for the fact that there is a layer of dust on the leaves. I brush it off and rinse them in fresh water but the dust just manages to reappear. Does anyone know what it is or how to get rid of it?

is the dust brown? If so it is diatoms and they are normal in a fairly new tank, and may take up to a year to go away. They use up the silicates leaching out of new sealant, suction cups, and even off of some gravels, and once the silicates are gone, they subside on their own. Manual removal is the only way to really combat them, but amano shrimp seem to eat them, and are fine with small, peaceful fish. What do you have for fish?
