I seem to have no luck with live plants. My fish are doing beautifully, but the 2 new Anubias plants I bought have black algae growing on them. The Java Moss seems to be the only plant that does well.

Anubias plants grow very slowly so algae does tend to grow on them. I prune heavily affected leaves, clean off the others, and try to keep the plant out of direct light (in one tank I have a tiger lotus that has floating leaves that are right over the top of the anubias, and that anubias does better than the one in my other planted tank).

I also have this problem. I got an amazon sword plant a few weeks ago and all the leaves are already covered with ugly black algae and it looks terrible. Are there any plants not requiring CO2 that aren't as susceptible to these algae problems? It looks like java moss is one.

I have a crypt plant in my tank.  They are fast growning and are easy to care for.  I also have a couple Vallisnerias that have done very well and do not have algae on them.  The plants that I bought were cheap and have all done well.

Some plants I have that don't seem to have this problem and don't require co2 are Radican Sword, some crypt plants, anchoris, and hornwort.

How many hours of light is your tank getting?  Is it near a window or sky light?  To many hours of artificial light might be the problem and natural light certainly is a problem.

You may need to totally take your tank down, clean it lightly with chlorox (filter housing/fake plants if any) and thoroughly rinse.  Maybe even replace the gravel as algae spores may be present although not to naked eye.

just a thought
