I was wondering if you went to some place like lowes or sutherlands and bought plexiglass if it would be suitable to build your own tank.

sure you can but not with plexi glass unless it's really thick. Glass is the way to go. Cheap, easy to work with, and stronger.

yellow pages are your best bet, its pretty common. there are a lot of articles floating around that show how to work with it.

Why not use glass -- it's much easier to work with than acrylic.

If you do decide on acrylic, it is usually best to have the pieces cut to size for you where you buy the acrylic.

After reading the article lumberjack suggested I have decided to build a plywood/glass tank.

The dimensions i found that will fit in my room are 44in X 18in X 18in which comes out to be a lil more than 60 gallon give or take a few gallons. Do you think this would be suitable for a chilild tank.
