Every time I visit my own thread here I feel like I'm setting a double standard. "Don't buy an anemone or you'll kill it, but it's OK for me to keep one."

Let me restate that I have about 18 years of experience and still did a lot of soul searching before I purchased my E. quadricolor. It was the first animal (other than snails) that went in my tank. It was placed and given several weeks to choose it's preferred location prior to anything else being added. To date, 3-4 months later, I still haven't placed anything close to it in case it decides to make another move. I also purchased an anemone that was tank propagated. It was already adapted to tank conditions and took nothing from the wild reef. (Just as a side note, I've added a maroon clownfish that was also aquacultured in hopes of it hosting. The clown doesn't even look twice at it.)

No one is saying that you should never keep an anemone. Just that they are one of the most difficult to keep of the available inverts. Make sure that you have the experience and the enviroment needed to give it a fair chance before you buy.

So many species, so little money!

I have a bubble tip anemone too (two actually since it split several months ago). I too was careful to place it well and provide all it needs, and mine was not wild collected either (came from another reefer's BTA when it split). I am happy to say mine is going strong after almost a year now (I got it last August), but I know that is by no means a measure of success.

My maroon clown found my E. Quad. in less than an hour after the anemone was introduced to the tank.  He's been making love to it ever since, about 6 months now.  Hope yours finds it too, it's such as sweet relationship.  They were both tank raised too.

Actually, it sounds crazy but I have heard that sticking a photo of a clownfish that looks like yours hosting an anemone that looks like yours to the tank (facing in of course) can coax a clownfish to try out the anemone. I know people this has worked for or I would probably think the idea was ridiculous.

Well Hailey, that sounds just crazy enough to work!!! I'll have to locate a picture and give it a try. It would be very nice to see instinct kick in.

I wish I could say the same of mine. He treats the anemone no different than a piece of rock!
