I just picked up a banjo catfish yesterday.  I aclimated him into my 75 gallon tank:

Temp: 77.6

pH:7.6

Nitrates: 0

Nitrites: 0

Ammo: 0

This morning he was doing the roll of death then went to the bottom and moved around the tank by drifting with the current.  I caught him and moved him into my hosp. tank made up of the same water as the 75.  I treated with some salt and stress coat...any suggestions?

Thanks

Do you know the pH of the water he came from? Banjo cats usually come from soft/acid water, and 7.5 pH may have been a shock. How did you acclimate the fish?

pH at the store was 7.6...I acclimated for about 35 minutes with the bag in the water and added 1/2 cup of tank water to the bag every 5 to 10 minutes.  I also added about 8 other fish at the same time and they are all doing great.

it might not be your fault at all it could be the pet store like with the dragon gobies their hard to get them to eat if you dont make sure hes eating he will starve and do the death roll. the other other possibility is bacterial infection or if he was with others at the shop and now hes alone he could be in a great deal of shock since they tend to like to be in schools of two or more
