| Ok. So I have about 4 of these umbrella plants but guess what? they're not true aquatic plants. PetSmart ripped me off again. I've bought these before cause they looked nice, so I put it in my 10 gallon and all but one died. I thought it was the salt (I have a light brackish aquarium)... so maybe bigger adults would do better. I got bigger ones, transferred everything to my 28 gallon bowfront. So far they're doing well, so I thought it was luck/adult plant forgivingness. But now I've found out they're not aquatic plants. What do I do? I have these plants but I don't want them to rot away in my tank.

They will die and rot. There is nothing you can do but either demand your money back for them lying to you, or enjoy them while they last and throw them away when they start to look tattered.

Take the plants back and demand your money be returned. The big box retailers know what they are doing to people.

| I agree -- take them back and demand your money back! This is such a problem in the entire industry -- many (maybe even 30% -- 50%) of the plants sold to local fish stores are not true aquatics, but everyone buys them and sells them because they hold up better in the tanks at your lfs. Unfortunately, even though they look relatively good for the few short weeks they are in the store, as you have found out they all simply rot and die when the hobbyist gets them home. Everyone just has to ask if the plants they are buying are true aquatics -- and stay away from spaths, bamboos, dracenas, etc. I would put this right up there with dyed and tatooed fish as a "cause" that we should all get on.

I bought these plants in a container that was labeled safe for terrariums and aquariums. But I don't think every plant labeled that was a true aquatic. I don't have the receipt anymore... but maybe if I show them what I bought, they'll refund for me. The plants are still great in my tank after 1 1/2 months; they're even growing new leaves and prospering. But I know they'll rot away.
