Hello to all;

I need help and I want to know if there is any information out there for parrot cichlids.

I have 2 parrots in my 55 gallon aquarium (along with an African Leaf fish, 2 blk tetras, an Angel, an Australian Rainbow, a Green severum, and a spotted Raphael catfish).

This morning when I turned on the lights, I noticed that my older parrot fish was on the ground, and he was "bent in half".   I have him in a net close to the surface (which seems to help a little bit), away from the others.  My pH is 7.4, no  NH3/4. no NO2, and my nitrates are at 10 ppm.  My fitration systems are the Emperor 200B back filter (which is my primary biological filter with bio beads, and the bio wheel) and an Aquaclear 70 that has just the foam block and carbon pouch.

What can I do to help this "little" guy/gal out?

Thank you for your help.

Also check to see if there is nothing the fish could have gotten "caught" or "snagged in".

20 gallon - melon barb x 3
krib x 2
planted
20 gallon - pending stocking

These are the true ones, not the hybrids.  And the last time I had added anything new was about 3 yrs ago.

I noticed that he/she was upsetting the leaffish, and then the leaffish kinda "snapped" on him/her, and that is when I noticed that something was wrong.

What do you mean when you say "bent"? Can you get a pic?

Unfortunately, I think (?) I know what you mean by "bent" -- although a photo would help us out. This happens to cichlids sometimes. The other day one of my 2.5" Hans discus started behaving like that -- nothing I could do, since I didn't know what the problem was. I am really against the practice of treating fish with anything, other than a water change, unless you know what you are treating for. My small discus was fine in a day or two -- I have no idea what the problem was. Hopefully yours will come out of it also.

try checking the amonia, nitrate, co2 and hydrogen sulfur levels (if your gravel is distubed its the stuff that smells like rotten egg) as these can prove to be extremley toxic to all life i found out the hard way from the sulfur. but what it sounds like is when your parot attacked the leaf fish it may have produced something in its body as a selfdefense mechanism and has released a toxin in the parot but it is unlikely best bet is post pics some one can help you out
