Just so it is clear, you know that isn't my tank right? I just found it on You Tube and I definitely in no way want to take credit for it.

As for my tank, I have all soft coral...they don't require much. I just keep my nitrate and phosphate at 0ppm with some macro-algae and water changes, and I target feed the corals/anemones that need it. I don't use any chemical/mineral additives but dechlorinator and Instant Ocean salt...haven't needed any yet. I am planning to add some LPS corals though, so I am going to need to raise my calcium, which is only 300ppm currently. I'll probably use kalkwasser for that when the time comes.

That is such a lovely tank! Wowzers! I could never do a reef tank, I'd kill everything! What things do you add to your water for the corals, Hailey? It is unbelieveable just how exspensive corals are!

Thanks for the information. I figured that they would eat shrimp so I could never have one anyway (I love my shrimp), but it's good to hear that they don't eat corals. I did have a coral beauty that ate small polyp gorgonians like they were candy though, so I'm going to stay away from that kind of coral when I get another one. Strangely the gorgonians with larger polyps were left alone, which makes me very glad because my prize coral is a basketball-sized corky sea finger.

How has the marine betta been doing with the corals though? I have read that they are not reef safe. How long have you had it?

Mr Betta is bout 7yrs old now and my personal favorite! Marine Betta aka Comets are actually groupers. They Great in a reef as long as you don't have any fish or ornimental shrimp small enough to fit in that big ole grouper mouth! I've put peppermint shrimp in several times to control aptasia and I'm thinking their disapearences were due to a certain "Lurker"!But it could have been the Convict Blennies too! Betta don't bother the corals at all. They are very shy fish and spend a lot of time hanging out behind the rocks, so him coming out was a treat. I swear he knows when we're trying to get a picture of him! Such a poser! lol
The Coral Beauty and Singapore angels are more likely to nip at the coral than the betta. And I have both! Can't keep xenia coral cuz Beauty loves it! Only coral I've seen him eat. The Singaproe hs niped at the buttons but he really dosen't go after anything else. But with both that isn't always the case, we just got lucky!
Oh and BTW the damsels were a freebie from my daughter's science class they were going to flush them when school let out for summer! We have eggs at least 2x a month! Extra food for the tank! lol
