But as long as your fish are doing fine

if it ain't broken don't fix it.

RE: Low PH

I checked my 46g yesterday and discovered that my ph had dropped from last week of 6.6 to 6.0. The tank is full of platys and guppies and lots of babies. All seem to be doing fine, no dead fish. I am concerned so i discontinued the C02 for a few days to see if it goes back up. My question is if the fish are doing fine is 6.0 Ok to keep?

RE: Low PH

You may have the problem that I have -- I live in the Boston area, and the MWRA water has very little alkalinity -- the water comes out of the tap at 8.0, but the pH drops below 7.0 quickly. What I do is I keep hunks of marine "live rock" -- actually, just base rock -- in all of my tanks. In my wholesale fish room, where the fish are really crowded and the pH can crash easily, I run a filter in each tank with aragonite. Finally, for fish that really need high alkalinity, like goldfish, I have chunks of gypsum (Estes calls it "Utah Ice") in the tanks.

Bottom line is that the water you and I have is much better than the "liquid rock" that is other places. It's much easier to add stuff to water than to take stuff out of it.

RE: Low PH

try adding some coral sand to the tank it usualy raises the ph about a half point per pound i use it in my lungfish tank which needs a ph around 8.0

RE: Low PH

What kinds of fish do you have? Many (probably most) common tropical fish love an acidic pH and soft water, so it may be just fine.

RE: Low PH

My bad didn't read thoroughly my bet would be that the plants are absorbing some of that waste so maybe they are the cause..............

RE: Low PH

I would let the tank tank run for a little while, fish waste and cycling should bring the ph up naturally. but if angelfish are breeding you must be doing something right..........

RE: Low PH

I dont have any driftwood or co2 , I dont know but fish seem ok they even breed, maybe I should just leave it be...

Freeomano

RE: Low PH

man i wish my ph would be that low to bad my tap water is about 7.5-7.8 straight from the tap. It could be that the tap water pH is held artificially high by something that gasses out of the water. And, if you can, get kH and gH readings for the tap and the tank. Also, do you have any driftwood or peat-based filter media or substrate in the tank, or do you inject CO2?

Low PH

I cant seem to get my PH up... I tested my water yesterday and everyting is good except for my PH, it is well lets put it this way my ph test kit goes down to 6.0 and it is lower then that. My fish seem ok infact I have had angel fish breed and plants seem ok. Like I said the other tests are ok... What would cause my low ph. BTW the ph out of the tap is 7.0.... Any ideas...

Steve
