I do 33% water changes and add 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons. So there is a little less than 6 tablespoons of salt in the tank.

When you do water changes how much salt do you add. I'm wondering if you have slowly been building up the salt content of the tank?

So what are the chances that it'll survive?

I REALLY want it to survive because it's from Petco and Petco from my house is FAR

That's probably your issue then, and the fish is either going to recover or not...there's really nothing you can do.

Acclimation should be done with every fish you buy, because shock is very dangerous (usually fatal and totally incurable). You can do it two ways.

One is to put the fish and the water from the bag in a safe bucket or large container (like whatever you use for water changes), and run an airline from the tank to the bucket. Start the line siphoning water from the tank to the bucket, and tie the end in the bucket in a loose knot to restrict the flow to 3-4 drops per second. Let this water drip into the bucket for at least an hour, until most of the bucket water (2/3-3/4) is tank water, and then net the fish and release it into the tank.

The other way, which does not work as well, but it alright in a pinch, is to float the bag on the water in the tank, open it up and add a small amount of water from the tank to the bag every 15 minutes. Do this until the bag water is mostly tank water as well.

I don't know how. I think you need another tank for it.

I have bought a koi swordtail (male) that has been in my tank for about 5 days now. His symptoms include: rapid gill movements, doesn't eat, sits in the bottom of the tank a lot, gets scared and stressed easily, hides, has a weird coloration of the back stomach area (he's albino), and is a little grayish and more white than usual.

pH: 7.8 hardness: 300 dH (brackish for the mollies) ammonia, nitrite: all zero nitrate: 20 ppm temperature: 82-84 degrees fahrenheit (it's summer in southern california)

I do water changes every week on weekends and add aquarium salt, dechlorinator, and bacteria supplement. I take out 33% of the water out of a 28 gallon bowfront tank.

I don't have a sure idea of the disease and I have Rid-Ich on hand.

Please tell me what disease it has and how to cure it.
