Getting a Huge Storm

Last month I went without power from 10:00 pm Mon. - 4:00 pm Thurs due to wings up to 78mph and a ton of snow. I had to keep my fish warm by heating stainless steel water bottles over the wood stove. The temp. n their tank dropped to about 65 degrees.

I haven't been on here since, kinda broke out of the habit. but here I am!!!!

We're getting another huge storm... but now we have a generator. Yea!!!!

The FLorida Aquarium has been kind to our aquarium society over the years to let us use their facility but now a worried that our livestock will be a "potential threat of contamination to the FL AQ’s systems" and wish to end all shows there. Here is a copy of the Email. I was just wondering about your thinking on the subject seems a little anal to me since we are in the convention hall and not the aquarium area

Ok folks, as good as the FLorida Aquarium folks have been with the TBAS we are now dealing with a ‘situation’. They want all bowls of fish and plants to be covered . . . TOTALLY! We are going to talk with the ‘big wigs’ but until then here is what our PRESIDENT says . . . “Regarding the 2010 Bowl Show status: I haven’t heard whether Bob has been able to have a favorable discussion with the aquaculture experts related to the potential threat of contamination to the FL AQ’s systems, and we haven’t had a conversation with Mr. Eggert yet, so we haven’t officially made a decision about exactly how to proceed with the 2010 Bowl Show. While we continue to work for a resolution and in the interest of being able to include some information in the newsletter, web site, etc., - and to go ahead with the January show procedures as close to normal as last time - I propose that we consider an interim action that may allow us to do the bowl show in January and continue the program. Let’s pronounce that all sale items and bowl show entries will be closed containers and that we will provide tops for tanks and “bowls”. We can bring a roll of plastic wrap and ensure that the items are covered and considered safe.” Soooooooo folks, please be careful when you bring in fish for auction, bowl shows and plants. Make sure the tops are sealed and the bags are tight so we can comply with the said rule until we get this worked out one way or another.

Months after I sent my own email in regarding that piece of legislation (we've talked about it before, I'll find the link to the topic), I finally, just now, got a reply back from my Representative. Here is his response:

***Thank you for contacting me about invasive species. I appreciate hearing from you.

Throughout my time in Congress I have been a strong advocate for environmental protection. Lake Erie and the other Great Lakes are a vital resource for commerce, recreation, transportation, species diversity and international cooperation. I believe that the Great Lakes must be protected and held as a public trust. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress in a bipartisan manner to advance this effort.

Protection of the Great Lakes must include mechanisms to ensure that non-native organisms do no harm to native ecosystems. Aquatic non-native invasive species have entered the Great Lakes causing a shock to the native ecosystem due to the severe disruption of the food chain. Of particular concern is the significant decline in the population of a small freshwater shrimp called Diporeia. Diporeia are a critically important food source for the fish of the Great Lakes. Thus their depletion, or in some areas complete disappearance, causes significant harm to the fish dependent on the Diporeia as a food source. The consequent repercussions are experienced throughout the food chain.

H.R. 669, the Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act, requires the Secretary of the Interior to write regulations that establish a process for assessing the risk of all nonnative wildlife species proposed for importation into the United States. The bill establishes factors that must be considered. These factors include determining the identity of the organism to the species level, its native range and whether it has previously caused economic harm, environmental harm, or harm to another animal species or human health in comparable ecosystems. The possibility that the species could spread or establish itself in the United States must also be considered.

Please be assured that I support this legislation. I will continue to keep your thoughts in mind as I monitor this important issue.

That does not make me happy. I understand concern for the Great Lakes. They are the largest source of freshwater in the country, and the world, I heard at some point. They are also an enormous ecosystem that is constantly under threat because of their use as shipping routes. But pet ownership is not the threat, shipping routes ARE, and this legislation makes no effort to protect against THAT. Grr....

Tarot Reading and Rune Casting

Hey guys I was wondering if there anyone else out there on fishchannel that also does tarot readings and rune casting.. I use to be big on tarot a couple of years ago but then switched most of my focus on runes.
But I really need more study and practice.
So here's my question to the people that practice:::
1. How do you study to get better readings?
2. If you do runes, which do you find better the actual runes or the runic tarot cards?

I have 3 tarot decks and one rune set. I"m currently awaiting a book to come in that will hopefully help me study my runes better, but I'd love to start an online study buddy group for both tarot and rune. If anyone is interested please msg me.

I forget who did this on BC, but it was pretty popular. I don't know if FC people are as much enthusiasts of forum games as over there, but here goes:

The idea is to post songs in alphabetical order. it would go something like this:

1) Angel
2) Barracuda (I'm not familiar with the song really, just the person who invented the game used this song as an example)
3) Come All Ye Faithful

So you get the idea. A, B, C.... we go by the first letter of the song. Artist's names are optional. So I'll start.... umm.

did anyone on hear watch the ultimate fighter season finale last night? if so what did you think about the kimbo slice fight? it was a crappy fight on houston alexanders part, but once kimbo got warmed up in round two, you could really see his improvement on his ground game. even though it had to go to the judges scorecard, i enjoyed the fight(no matter how bad the first round was) and am glad that kimbo got his first official win in the UFC.

Are there any Martial Artists on FC? Technically anyone without a gold belt or higher is a white belt, but I mean in the way that you've trained for a belt. Today I officially got my gold belt in the KickStart program. We take Chun Kuk Do which was invented by Chuck Norris and incorporates many styles of Martial Arts so it is translated into Korean as 'Way of 1000 Lands' or 'Way of Many Lands'. It is loosely translated as 'The Universal Way'. Next semester I'll be getting my purple belt. Anyone else take Martial Arts of any type?

I was a starting member for some time, and i thought it revolved around the nubmer of posts you made, but all of a sudden i see that i have become a junior member, with 260 posts, when i had been a starting member at like 200.
