most guppies only have 30 to 40 babies and you would need more than one female if you keep them together.have you ever bred guppies before?

To add, young females and old ones will produces smaller batches--6-18 fry at times. You should also consider the percentage that reaches maturity. Typically, at least 5% will simply never make it. If the tank isn't kept clean, that number of "doomed fry" could be as high as 35%. I'm not saying this to discourage you at all. I'm just giving you a head's up on what to expect.

A word of caution -- your lfs will not buy the fish as "babies" -- they are going to expect mature fish, males showing good tails and colors. This means you will have to raise the babies for around 3 months, feeding them heavily, doing water changes often.

Hey thanks for the Feedback!
I have chosen to go with guppies. I think that I shall start with one male and two females. I am not interested in breeding on any sort of commercial scale although I do have a couple of mates who would be interested in some young guppies.
Cheers!

I always thought it was cool that guppies got big bellies when they're pregnant. It adds to the excitement

| i have 6 pregnant guppies, one already delivered. i got 11 babies on the 16th and now i'm down to just 4. dont know what i'm doing wrong but it really breaks my heart to lose any fish, especially babies. these are my first attempt at breeding. i'm housing the females in 3 way breeders. water perameters are ph-7.1 / ammonia-0ppm / ni-0ppm / na-0 to 5ppm. temp is between 74.5 and 76.5 degrees. what can i feed these lil guys? i bought HBH brand baby bites and i've crushed normal flakes and i cant tell if they are eating or not. i also heard to feed them egg whites but how do i prepare it? any tips will be appreciated. thanx
