| Hi everyone, I have a 20 gallon tank cycled and everything, but the filter is one of those that hangs on the back of the tank, and sucks in water through a tube that goes down. I have heard people say to cover the intake, but I'm not quite sure how to do that? Or would it be better just to use a sponge filter?

Cover the intake tube with a sponge

A sponge (like the prefilter type you can get at a pet store) or a piece of tulle-type mesh or nylon stocking (new and clean of course) with a rubber band works fine too. Try not to impede the flow of the filter too much unless it is oversized for the tank, which a thick sponge can do.
