| What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH (in numbers) of your tap water, tank water, and fish store water? Are your mollies aggressive to new comers? Do you acclimate your fish? Does your tank have salt? You know, it could be due to weak fish at the store. Transport the fish back home as soon as possible with something wrapped around the bag. It retains the temperature and fish aren't stressed and scared as much; it's dark in there.

Im really kind of new to this I have had about 6 mollies in total since last year When i first started my tank only with a few mollies or platys mixed in This year i started anew with my two mollies actually three at first it was an blk/wht spotted color mollly kind of plumpy (too cute) the other two seemed to be stressing that one out so he died shortly after. I have no idea how to check the Ph,ammonia of the water As far as the temp I just put in luke warm water to cool water I would like to learn b/c when i go to the pet tore I always ask the salesmen will this fish go well with my mollies they always say yes but they always end up sick or dying SO i would appreciate some good advice

| To test water, your lfs (local fish store) should do it for you. Ahaha... you like the balloon mollies? Yup, I have 4 of em cause they're so CUTE. I don't use lukewarm or any heated water. The heater does it for me, I just put in the tap water and the heater heats it up. Maybe it's because your two mollies bully the newcomers... seems like that. Aggressive fish

| The people at the fish store keep telling you that these fish can go with mollies because mollies are great community fish. Like Fattfishy said you need to test your water as soon as possible and post the numbers. It could be countless things so let us know those numbers

| Hello, Most people on this forum call me MOA and I've been fishkeeping for about a decade (which isn't that long, actually, compared to most of the other members). Anyhow, there are a few things that I noticed that may be germane: 1) First, always acclimate your fish properly: "Acclimating the fish is simply the process that gets the fish from their plastic bags into the aquarium without any negative side effects. The two primary concerns when acclimating the fish are that the temperature the fish are coming from is not too different from the temperature of the aquarium and that the water chemistries of the plastic bag and aquarium are not excessively divergent. Because of the small number of important factors, acclimatization is a fairly straight-forward process. "To acclimate fish properly, open the plastic bags and float them in the aquarium (the use of a clothes pin to attach them to a tank wall will keep them from sinking). Float the bags with the fish in them for 15 to 30 minutes to equalize the temperature of the bags with that of the aquarium. Additionally, while the bags are floating, pour small amounts of aquarium water into them periodically throughout the 15 to 30 minutes to permit the fish to adjust to the water chemistry of your aquarium. When the time is up, the bags should be half full of aquarium water. After this, pour the fish gently into the aquarium. (As floating the bags and pouring them out will add water to the aquarium, it may be necessary to remove around one gallon of the water before acclimating the fish.) The fish have now been correctly acclimated and introduced to the aquarium." 
2) Be careful when changing water: Replacement water needs to have a few things happen to it before it is ready for the aquarium. a) Make sure that the container you use has never had any contact with cleaning chemicals, fertilizers, etc. If your container has been used for anything but aquarium water changes, then you need to get a new, aquarium-safe container as the old one may poison your fish. b) Make sure that it is the same temperature as the water in the aquarium (these means that you'll need two thermometers, one for the tank and one for your bucket or whatever you use for water changes). Relying on the heater or hoping that you're close enough using lukewarm water can lead to fish deaths if you happen to be off by more than 3 degrees Fahrenheit. This being the case, spend the extra $5 and get some thermometers. c) Make sure that your replacement water doesn't have any toxic chemicals in it. This means, if you don't do it already, that you will need to dechlorinate your water and neutralize any heavy metals. There are several products that your local fish store should carry that will do these, but don't buy more than you need--get the one that dechlorinates and neutralizes metal, you don't need any other additives. d) Never change more than 50% at a time and try to do weekly, 25% water changes if possible. 3) Purchase an inexpensive test kit that includes the following tests: Ammonia/ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, pH, water hardness--especially ammonia/ammonium, nitrite, and nitrate. 4) Make sure that your tank temperature is around 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Mollies are tropical fish and will fair much better in tropical temperatures. Furthermore, most tropical fish at the pet shop will be used to this temperature and will acclimate better if the temperature that they are coming from is the same as the water they are going in. 5) Mollies prefer tanks at least 20 gallons in size and can become territorial in smaller tanks, thus they harass your other fish. Other than the above, we can't help you much until you get your water tested. Hope this helped.

MOA, I love the diagram LOL. Anyway, you stated it all, and my main point of posting was just to add about using water conditioner. I use Tetra AquaSafe, no matter how my tap water tests. It's a safety precaution that is often overlooked. Also, do you have a filter on your tank? Did you fishless cycle before hand? It seems to me you never properly cycled your tank, so your fish are dying because of it.

LOL, most of my diagrams are from a book that I tried to write. The book had so many errors that I had to give it up, but I'm trying to get some use out of the diagrams.

| I just had in earthquake in South California... 11:41 A.M. -8 GMT Magnitude 5.8 Fish tank spilled half a gallon all over the table, electric outlets... I turned off the light just in case... I know it's really irrelevent just wanted to say I'm glad I saw MOA's formulas for the watts
