I was looking at birdchannel.com, reptilechannel.com, catchannel.com, etc and some of them have an adoption category in the forum. You'd have to meet in person but I think it's a good idea. If you had to move and they didn't allow pets then it would be useful there.

yeah austin I agree!!!! Also (once you got to know someone of course) you could take turns "fish sitting" for each other while on vacations ....that worries me cause its not like you can take them to a kennel.....It would be nice to find people near you that would like to trade fish or even take them esp when you have alot of livebearers like I do ya know?

And it's good to have a fishsitter that knows about fish. When I went on vacation my neighbor ,who doesn't keep fish, fed them for me. I know she didn't mean to but my betta died 2 days after I left. An experienced fishkeeper might have known if somthing could be done. She still did the best she could. All the fish in my 10 gallon were fine.

It's ok... I guess it'd be nice though.

I kind of like the idea. It could also provide a way for people who have breeding fish to network, and to possibly sell/give away some of their fry to others who may not have those fish available to them from other means. I think such a forum could be used for a variety of things.

| The main problem is we can't have a "for sale" forum. The adoption forum has to be free (except for Shipping and Handling). We don't want a forum like this to get out of hand with lots of solicitations. F.M.

I think it is a great idea. What if someone couldn't keep their fish any longer? It would be better to network than to have the fish flushed, killed, or let loose into the wild. Not that anyone here would do that, I'm just saying.... My family is planning a goldfish/koi rescue for the Olympic Peninsula. We are breaking ground next spring. Wouldn't it be nice if those who had too many fish or couldn't keep them any longer could know that their pups are loved and cared for.

| I don't see a problem with people offering fish and other aquacritters up for adoption, but I don't know if it would attract enough attention to warrant a separate category. Fish adoptions aren't that common, so it might be a better idea for interested persons to post in General Freshwater...but at the same time, this may not seem like a ready option for people. An adoption page would be an obvious beacon for someone needing to give away a pet. It's just a question of the practicality and need for the thing, I suppose.
