That set up may be OK for a pair for a little while, but they will need a larger filtered tank very soon. Most fiddler crabs don't live more than a few months in captivity, even under the best of care, so they are not going to do well in that set up. They are not well understood and have some requirements that are often overlooked, such as the need for brackish water, so make sure you get marine salt (not aquarium salt...you want the minerals in the marine salt) and a hydrometer to reach the desired salinity between about 1.005 and 1.010 or so. Personally, given their abysmal track record, I don't think they should be sold in pet stores at all, but you can give them a shot. Just try to provide the best environment you can.

It looks perfect but i would not recommend it for fiddlers. Try others like red asian and even moon crabs. Fiddlers r a waste of money cause they dont last long!

| Hello all, Just thought i should let everyone know that my crab has just recently died from a molting problem! So, I would say that if it could live 4 this long in this set-up, it is a viable set-up indeed!!

| I have a spare 2.5 gallon tank. I'll try it out, maybe when I'm done with my main tank.

Finny (5/5/2010) Hello all,Just thought i should let everyone know that my crab has just recently died from a molting problem! So, I would say that if it could live 4 this long in this set-up, it is a viable set-up indeed!! If he had trouble molting, depending on what the trouble was, I'd check the calcium level in your water by testing the kH - a pet store should be able to do this. If your water doesn't have enough calcium, invertebrates can have trouble detaching the shell during molting, and trouble creating a new one afterward.
