What is the wattage of the bulbs? How many bulbs are there? How deep is your tank?

Did you look at T5 fixtures? Are you opting for an old style HO fixture instead?

They are 15 watts each. There are two bulbs. And the tank is a 29g tall (17" high). And here is the link

It appears each tube is 18 Watts. Discounting the actinic bulb, which provides color but much not much usable radiation, you have a single 18 watt bulb over 14-17 inches of water (figuring substrate, etc.).

I'm sorry. I think this lighting is inadequate for any photosynthetic corals, even lower light soft corals. Even twice this amount of light would be inadequate for all but deeper water corals.

I'd strongly recommend you reconsider. Spend more now on lighting and save in the long run, as I think you'll end up replacing this fixture in short order if you buy it.

Def 15w wont be enough for any coral in a 29g. I have 18w 10.000k in my 8g. Rule of thumb idea is at least 3-4 watts per gallon.

I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I didn't have a tank full of fish.....

i agree with jeff. nowhere near enough light for photosynthetic corals...

though i will say that ive got 78watts of T5 HO light over my 18" deep 30gal saltwater setup... any my shrooms are thriving.

Just an fyi for ya. I got an aquatic life t5-ho linkable fixture at my lfs for 150$ If you want to add another fixture later its of course 150$ I think this is the best value out there>>> just my opinion.

Like the other replies to the post I also think more lighting will be required.  I have a 96w Coralife CFL on my 45 Gallon Tank and it's barely adequate.  The bulbs output diminishes quickly and has to be replaced every 5-7 months or my corals seem to suffer.  I've read that a CFL's loose about half of their light output within 6 Months and start diminishing the second you use them.  As soon as I get some cash I'm going to upgrade my lighting, in this economy it may be awhile.  I've been looking into led lighting the up-front cost is huge but the energy savings and bulb replacement cost should help take away some of the sting of that hefty price tag that comes along with LED Lighting. Good luck with your corals and your quest for lighting.
