i agree. a pH of 8.3 is optimal.

You were right, Pleco, my phosphate level is 5.0. I got some Phosbuster,they are pretty proud of that stuff, it wasn't cheap.

Thank you for the help. Got the PH at 8.3. Phosphate is at zero! Red stuff quit growing! LOL  I got a Dragon gorby and he's about eatting most of it! LOL

phew... for a sec there i thought you were talking about the BIG eel-like dragon gobies. the little saltwater dragon gobies are cute lol.
I have an algae blenny thats supposed to keep algae in check.... he doesnt though. :/

well, good luck with the tank, and post osme shots of the gpby and the whole tank!

your pH is low but that wouldnt cause the algae.  ive found that its inadequate lighting a reef tank requires at least 4 watts per gallon even if it is by a window( which is a bad idea).  There is a product called marine max that is live bacteria that eats the sludge from your substrate and an surface of your tank without harming fish or coral. not to step on any toes though i would not disrupt your sand or you will run the risk of an ammonia or nitrite spike which is very bad.  the way i battled mine was with a turkey baster, a fish net and my hands.  i just blew it off  of surfaces( rocks, plants, corals, tank sides and sand) and using the net just scoop it up before it goes in your intake.
