Any one know what type nem this is ? Picked him up 2 weeks ago. He's doing great on QT, however I wanted to read up on his type so I provide optimum care.

It looks like a corkscrew but could be a long tentacle.

Looks like an LTA to me, and a half-starved one at that. The large oral disk and short tentacles on a normally long tentacled anemone hint that it has been too long without sufficient light or food. I would not keep this in quarantine long, as it needs some good, strong light (preferably MH), and regular supplemental feedings soon.

And please take this in the helpful spirit in which it is meant, but may I suggest that in the future you please take the time to learn what exactly you are purchasing before you actually buy it? It's good that you want to learn about it's husbandry now, but what if you find your tank is not suited to it (too small, inadequate lighting, incompatible tankmates, etc)? Are you prepared to totally revamp your tank to make it work, or to return it? Particularly with anemones, which can be quite demanding (some are nearly impossible for the most advanced aquarists to keep in captivity long), it is important to know what you are getting and be prepared. Luckily LTA's are among the less demanding and more hardy anemones, but that's not to say it won't be a challenge.

i agree whole-heartedly. though you may want to pick up a different one.... sick anemones have some trouble recovering in aquaria.

ive had bad luck with LTAs myself, but maybe youve got one of the hardier ones.

good luck!

Thanks for the feedback and advice. I always enjoy it and try to learn from it. I have been doing Salwater for mor ethan 20 years and have done both Fish only and reef now. I just haven'y had this type before and wanted to make sure I took care of him the proper way.

I have had a Pink tip NEM for over 2 years, and lots of other inverts, I just was told at the LFS that this was a "candy cane" anemone ?? Which i was like, okay make up names now. So when I did a google search I could find exactly what type it was and even though I was almost sure about it being a LTA, I had others suggest everything from a purple BTA to , well , alot LOL

Thanks again  - He has been moved to my DT/Reef and has expanded about 3 times as big as in these photos - HUGE !

I hate it when retailers/wholesalers make up common names that it is impossible find any information on. I can't figure out if it is to conceal ignorance, or to deliberately deceive customers into buying things that sound "different" or "exotic".
