I'm on the way to the locally owned pet-store because they will take my fry. When I was scooping them up I noticed one had it's eye and face chewed off. So I did the only humane thing. I placed him in a ziploc bag with some water, and put him in the freezer. I think he's already dead. Now I have that feeling of guilt in my stomach and I feel like I'm going to cry. I was giving him to the pet-store and I still feel horrible!!!! Sigh....

Don't beat yourself up. I have had to euthanize fry and it's worse than the adults, in my opinion, because they are so little and young. But, keep in mind, fry frequently get into tussles or get chased while they are growing. I know it doesn't make you feel much better, but it is normal to lose some fry before they are fully grown. And next time, you'll know to keep a little closer eye on them. Think of it as a learning experience. RIP little fry.

It is not a easy thing to do to any pet. Just hang in there. You did your best. I feel so bad also when I lose a fish. They become part of your family.
Help those in our hobby to exceed beyond their expectations.

You shouldn't feel bad. Euthanasia is an unpleasant but sometimes necessary part of this hobby. If you want a more quick and painless way to do it, clove oil works very well. It puts them to sleep and then you can end it with something else and they'll never feel a thing. Here's an article on that. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-most-humane-way-to-euthanize-a-fish.htm

most of us have had to put a fish down at some point or another... its just part of life. it would be pure luck for any of they fry of a single platy spawn to survive ion the wild. youre doing good by keeping the healthy ones... healthy.
Youre doing well from what i can see, so dont feel bad

It was sooo sad when I got home, he was all frozen!!! Oh well, it's best he's not in pain, right?

| Supposedly, at least for humans, freezing's the best way to go because it's not painful.

You did the right thing. If only I could've done that to my fish, instead of letting her suffer. I wanted to see that she would live. But she died in front of my eyes, next to her tankmate. I miss her. RIP, Saphira.
