I just wanted to share my excitement with everyone. I bought a pair of bangaii cardinals from a fellow reefer on Tuesday night, and by Thursday morning the male was holding a bunch of eggs in his mouth! I don't hold out much hope for any fry to survive in my reef tank (I don't currently have another tank to rear the fry in), but it is just neat that they felt comfortable enough to do that after less than two days in my tank. It was fun to watch the little dance they were doing too...they're fascinating fish and rapidly becoming one of my favorites.

Congrats on the blessed event. If I start a salt water setup I definally want some of the smaller xardinal species. now is an inspirering time to set up a smaller salt-water tank for things like this. You have a pair and the peremiters of your tank is conductive to their breeding so they will most likely do it again

Cool story, too bad we all couldn't have an extra tank  for such an occasion.  I think my wife would kill me if I bought a tank for a what-if occasion.  She never goes in the basement, hmm....

Good luck with your new fish!

Thanks guys. We'll see if he holds onto the eggs for the full month, or if he eats them. If he keeps them the whole time maybe I will set up another tank (with me it isn't so much not having the spare tanks, but having space in my small house to set them up...I'm driving my husband crazy with tanks on every spare wall ).

Well, as of last night the eggs are gone. It was fun while it lasted. Still, if they bred that fast in my tank this time, likely it will happen again soon and maybe then I'll be ready.

Simplistic is the word here, you have a pair, they have bred once, you have the right tank conditions............time will tell
