Yeah, tons of 'em. I took some high speed footage of them shooting. Simply amazing. They are on another computer so I'll have to get a stick and transfer some. If you read FAMA, check out my Archerfish feature in the September 2008 issue. I think it might be on line too but not sure. I know you are very experienced do you keep brackish? SGN

In your experience, how fast do they grow. I know they can't stay in 30 gallons forever. Right now they're only about 2 to 2.5 inches.

I don’t know for every species but can personally speak for three. Toxotes jaculatrix, T. microlepis and T. chatareus. Many factors determine growth rate and adult size such as diet and water conditions to name a couple. I currently have two T. microlepis which grew from 4 cm (1.5 inches) to their current size of 12 cm (about 5 inches) in about 18-months. I feed them mostly live food with occasional frozen food. They are now four years old and live in a partially filled 90-gallon tank with very frequent partial water changes. Live food really makes a difference. I also think letting them ‘shoot’ for their dinner helps them stay sharp minded. If you can, try to identify the exact species you have because not all Archerfish are brackish even though urban legend says they are. Please feel free to ask any questions because you have some really sensational fish. Neale Monks has a great book about brackish water and he is also on this forum offering sound advice. Please let us know how they are doing. Enjoy your sharpshooters! SGN

I have three T. Jaculatrix. I got them from my LFS which is owned and run by a woman who is 75 years old if she 's a day. The store is in her basement and she's been in business for 41 years. She is very old school and won't sell any fish to you if she thinks you won't properly care for them. I've seen her ask people to leave! I know that doesn't have any bearing on anything. Just wanted to share because she's such a gem. They truly don't make them like her anymore!
