| Not overkill, you will love it. Just get one that is sized for your tank. SGN

canister filters are great. theyre better for freshwater than saltwater anyway. it depends on the size though. and the brand.
4 gallon Finnex pico aquarium- Iwagumi tank with orange eye black tiger shrimp.10 gallon- Planted Asian biotope with CPD's, sparkling gouramis, and a breeding pair of Betta albimarginata. <link to pics of my tanks- http://board.fishchannel.com/Topic225475-16-1.aspx>

| You will love a can filter I have one in my 55 freshwater tank...it cycles 265 gallons per hour...that a flow thru of fresh water 5 times per hour, it's not a very expensive unit, it is 3 stage, I bought 2 of them on ebay, had em in a week...and get extra parts for the readily. I love em, super quiet, easy to change media, and has 3 separate baskets for whatever type media you wish to use.
