Hello fellow fish lovers.  Feel free to have fun and/or elaborate.

I currently care for 250 gallons of the freshwater variety in various size tanks.  I am considering one more tank (75g-150g) of the reef variety.  I know about proper cycling and weekly water changes. I'm well versed in FW water testing.  I have done limited research and have learned about salinity levels, temperature, live rock.

1) What do you all think is the most important thing for me to know/research to help round out my current knowledge base in saltwater?

2) If you were to do it again you would....

3) Things no one ever told you but you wish they had.

Knowledge is king.  Smart people learn from their mistakes, the Wise learn from others mistakes.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing I've learned in my 20 odd years of having a tank set up is PATIENTS. I believe this is the answer to your top two questions. I wish that someone told me to take my time rather than going jack the bear and I would have save loads of cash & all those panic attacks when something happens in the tank.

I agree with that assessment.  I have just finished fishlessly cycling a 150G tank filled with Texas Holey Rock for my incoming shipment of african cichlids.  The process has taken approximately 6 weeks.

I have been informed that a doing a fishless cycling with base "live rock" could take around 3 months.  I am completely prepared for that.  We'll tape some cute pictures of fish to the outside of the tank during that time.
