I setup a pond about 5 or 6 years ago and all the fish are dying. I started out with 5 comet gold fish and 5 minnows but, the fish bred and upuntil a few days ago I had 8 comet goldfish. 2 have died in the past few days and I don't know why. The pond has not had any problems until now. Does anybody have suggestions as to what I should do?

Hi marlin,
Have you tested the water? Do you have any run-off water dumping into the pond? SGN

| Hi Marlin, let me ask you a few questions. How many gallons is your pond? Do you make water changes? If so, how much and how often? Do you have a bio-filter? Is it inside or outside of your pond? How often do you clean this filter? How often do you feed your fish? Do you have rocks, stones, gravel, etc., at the bottom of your pond? How old is your pond? What type of oxygenating plants do you have in your pond if any? How many of your plants are potted in dirt? It is possible that water condtions have gone bad due to not enough filtration or a filter that has to be cleaned too often. Water changes from the bottom of the pond are very important to remove excess toxins that congregate there. For now I would stop all feeding of your fish and make a one third water change from the bottom of your pond. Do not feed your fish for about five days and see if the water changes are having any effect, in a good way, on your fish. Your's Koily, Lorraine

| I think your fish are dying from Oxygen starvation. Do they gasp at the surface at the Pond? If so you have to apply fresh running water into the pond immeditly. It would be a good idea to get a water fall or some fast growing plants like water hyacinth and water lettuce. They will help oxygenate the pond.

Well I was planning to have Goldfish pond, but after reading this, no-no I don't want to take any risk for their life. They look beautiful where they are. Thanks for making me aware.

| Gosh Bryan, I wouldn't let this keep you from giving it a try. Many of us have very successful ponds and receive tremendous enjoyment from them. What were you considering? SGN
