| One of my males has a slightly pinched back fin, i noticed it a few days ago, and did not think much of it until today i noticed the fin has gone cloudy. its not fuzzy. now normally when a fish is ill, it is driven away by other fish and also refuses to eat, now my male is acting normal and no fish pick at him, so im wondering if anyone has had this before, all my water tests show my water quality is normal, the only thing different is i am currently running 2 filters at the same time, one is a new one i just bought, im acclimatizing it to my tank. i also recently bought some Danios and a yoyo loach. my tank is planted, any advice would be helpful i have included a picture

| today the fin seems smaller, also noted some deterioration on other fins, suspect fin rot, moved to quarenteen tank and began to use a broad spectrum antibiotic.

The best medicine is always healthy clean water, that's how mother nature does it and the fish are always healthy in the rivers.

Fin rot can usually be cured by water changes. Fish rarely get fin rot unless something is off with water quality. I wouldn't worry about using antibiotics.

| i can confirm that it is fin rot now, however i am puzzled, i am aware that fin rot is caused by poor water quality, however, i do weekly water changes, and all my tests show that my tanks water is fine. the thing thats off is the temperature, even with air conditioning, my house is way warmer than usual due to the stifling heat wave over most of the continent. my tanks temperature has maintained 83F for the past few weeks despite efforts to cool it down. if this is the cause of my fishes unhealthy state, does anyone have advice on how to help lower the temp? also, i am a student so i cant afford any expensive cooling devices, low cost solutions are what im looking for.

Starrfish (7/21/2011) i can confirm that it is fin rot now, however i am puzzled, i am aware that fin rot is caused by poor water quality, however, i do weekly water changes, and all my tests show that my tanks water is fine. the thing thats off is the temperature, even with air conditioning, my house is way warmer than usual due to the stifling heat wave over most of the continent. my tanks temperature has maintained 83F for the past few weeks despite efforts to cool it down. if this is the cause of my fishes unhealthy state, does anyone have advice on how to help lower the temp?also, i am a student so i cant afford any expensive cooling devices, low cost solutions are what im looking for. Get on eof the many fan products for aquariums to cool it down. I'm currently using one by Jebo that cost $10 and it cools the tank down by like 5 degrees. Sometimes it will even kick the heater on, even during this heat wave. I know what you mean on cost and they are worth the $10 for sure. I'll try to find the link for you.
