| I had this problem at one time, due to using live plants in my tank. Had pond snails everywhere, in the filter, eggs all over the glass etc... I went and spent $80.00 bucks on Aquabid, and purchased 20 Assassin Snails. 4 months later, no more pond snails. Now just my Assassin Snails, my Nerite snails, and 50+Maylasian Thrumpet Snails, which I introduced to keep the Assassin Snails happy and functioning, are in my tank. The Nerites don't reproduce in freashwater. The Maylasian Thrumpet Snails are a live bearing snail and can become a nuisance if not kept in check, and the Assassin's reproduce, but only 3-4 at a time, and not very often. But Assassin Snails attack, kill and eat several types of snails, including most Pond Snails, Ramhorn snails, and Maylasian Thrumpet Snails. So that's how I handled the problem.
My mind always tells me I'm young.......yet every morning when I get out of bed.......my body proves I'm very very old!

| I do not even want to talk about this. My 60 gal tank is infested with these things. Common pond snails. I bought 20 assasin snails to take care of the problem, but I have seen neither hide nor hair of my assasins I think they got assasinated by the pond snails. (k that was obviously a joke as pond snails do not eat other snails of course, but what I meant to say is that the assasin snails dissapeared while the pond snails keep on flourishing)

I don't think overfeeding is such a big factor for the snail population in my tank. My fish do not leave any food anywhere, everything is eaten right away. The discus are grazers so they take care of any food that falls to the bottom, and the guppies do the rest.
I need to buy some more assassins.

This is exactly my experience. All food which enters my tank is gone within a minute or two. Other wise I'd remove it. My understanding is that certain varieties of snails enjoy eating the unhealthy, dead or dying plants. Therefore the more you have of those the more snails will grow and multiply. I have gotten the population to a new low by simply focusing on pruning and maintaining healthy plants.

| Hey Diru97, firstly let me just say that I wasn't trying to upset you in the least over this snail thing, so if it came across that way, I'm truly sorry. My tank is a 60 gallon show tank, that had plenty of hitchhiker's in the plants, and they got out of control in mine real bad before I even found out there was such a thing as assassin snails. They did the job for me, but like you and like I said, out of the twenty I had. There is at least 5 left and maaaaybbee a few young ones hiding in the substrate. I don't know where mine all went either. thinking either my Discus ate them, or water was too acidic for them to stay long.
My mind always tells me I'm young.......yet every morning when I get out of bed.......my body proves I'm very very old!
