I have a new 75 and figured I would try to breed a new cichlid for me, Firemouths. I bouight 4 small ones hoping to get a pair out the group. They have been in there for about a month, have grown a bit but showing no signs of pairing.

Has anyone bred these guys and how quickly did you get them to pair. I am starting to think I may have got all one sex.

If you do end up with a pair,it may(because you got them small) take a while for them to reach a breeding size.MAny decades ago I had a pair and once they started to breed they were like rabbits!!!

If there are males and females in the group, a pair will eventually form. Your odds of getting a pair is much better with 6 fish.

They are now a couple inches. one is a bit larger than the others , but they all seem to just chase each other with the largest defending one cave. There is also a school of 6 clown barbs for dither fish. The barbs are still pretty small at about an inch. There are four tree trunk ornaments scattered around and slate rock formation in the middle of the tank. so far the biggest one has taken a liking to one of the tree stumps, but the ithers just roam around.
