I'm very new to all this. All I wanted was some new guppies, because those are my favorite! Well anyways, I picked out a black male and a sunrise female, and apparently she was pregnant because in my guppy tank, I have 20 baby fish! I have some questions: My female looks like she still has eggs in her.... is that possible? My other one is what color would my two guppies make if I breeded them? Any possibilities I could be looking at?

She's probably not holding any eggs.... Guppies are livebearers, meaning they give birth the same way humans and dogs and cats do, they don't drop eggs. She may still be holding some embryos though. The male should be able to help her take care of that.

It's entirely possible she was pregnant before she got your tank. Even if she was housed with all females, they can store sperm for a good while, so one exposure is all it would have taken.

Guppy colors can be hard to predict, because there is such a wide range of colors and patterns. Some of the people more familiar might be able to help, but my guppy breedings (all 2 of them) have always given either fry that look like one of the parents or a strange combo of the two parents that looks like both colors randomly bleeding together.

Get ready. Guppies can have babies every couple months. And a lot of them too. If you are the type that doesn't mind, they'll probably eat all or most if you leave them alone, but you don't like that, you'll have to get a plan ready to deal with all the fry.

And WELCOME to the hobby!

Ok thank you! I always wanted to breed fish, but I have always failed in one of the steps somehow. I hope I can be successful in fish breeding, and it is very exciting!
