So,

I have 20 gallon tank with 10 guppies, 1 female swordtail, 2 swordtail fry, and a rubber lip pleco. I was trying to make it a planted tank with water wisteria, An Amazon sword and Corck screw vallis,  but the water wisteria wont stay down! And same with the Vallis. So i just left all of them to float at the top for a week because they where the altmite baby savers when my guppies gave birth. I starting to think that was a big NO!! Because the Vallis has Died pretty much because my fish ate all their roots. I want to add more plants that go in the middle, front and background. I am adding Java moss and im keeping the water wisteria and some Vallis. I want the tank to look really neat and natural looking.

Does anybody have any suggestions with plants? oh, they also have to be Bushy enough for fry to hide in when the day comes for my swordtail and guppies. I will be going to Pisces this weekend or next week.

The objects that are in the tank are:

1: Piece of drift wood

5: rocks

and thats it

Thanks

Blub, Blub, Blub!

20 gallon: 5 neon tetras, 1 Rubber lip plecostomus, 1 Male guppy, 1 Anubias, a bunch of Java moss, 3 Assassin snails, About 25 juvi guppies! They started to give birth! and 4 guppy fry

Other tank: Mr.Blubs (Red Ryukin goldfish)

Soon to get: 15 Comets for my Pond! Im saving Feeder fish

Other pets: Peewee and Butters my two Budgies and Kitkat my Killer CAt!

If you want to provide a good haven for your fry, I would suggest Horn wort, penny wort or other type of floating plant.

A substrate depth of at least 2 inches will also help keep the plants down, and until you move the pleco, your plants will continually be uprooted.

I would suggest that you add more gravel, all of my plants are planted in gravel that is at least 2 inches deep and no deeper than 3 inches. In my planted tank, I have Wisteria, Cabomba, Water Sprite, 2 species of Anubias, 3 species of Aponogetons, and 1 species of Val. Vals do not like to be uprooted, this is probably what killed their roots. Plant Vals with just their roots buried leaving the crown exposed and leave them alone, never vacuuming the gravel any closer than 4 inches to the base of the plants is good. I have all of these plants in a 29 gallon tank with 1.3 watts of full spectrum lighting per gallon and I have 2 plecos that have never uprooted any of my plants. I will also add that I do not use CO2 in any of my tanks.:
