Hey guys! I'm back after about a year of absence and a lot of maturing. I used to be F1sHb0Y, or however I had done the funky caps thing. I've been doing reptiles, but I just got back into fish with a yellow lab in my old 10gal. It feels good to be back in the wet 'n' wild world of fish! I'm probably going to breed this little one, once it gets some size on it. For now, my question is, what would be the best filter for a ten gallon with one or two labs (one for a while) Basically, I want the most amazing HOB filter I can get at a decent price, that won't overflow the tank, and will actually fit in it.

A 10 gal is a little small for breeding thse. I would go with at least a 20 long. A good filter for a 10 though would be a Penguin, even the big one doesn't create too much flow to slash out, but I would go with the largest single overflow one. The Aquaclear is a little too much flow.

I'll probably be moving up to a 20L pretty soon, just need to save up. Hopefully by the time the money's in the bank the lab will be mature. Thanks for the filter advice! Would there be a good catfish to go with a pair of yellow labs? I wouldn't think there would be, but just asking

Not if you want to breed them in a small tank like a 10 or 20. If in a bigger tank, any of the synodontis cats would do including the upsidedown cats. Botias/loaches are also good scavengers for a African cichlid tank.

You might want to avoid catfish if you want to breed your Labs. Most synodontis that share the mbuna's water preferences are also quite willing, and able, to eat cichlid fry. Plus, to the best of my knowledge, they all reach at least six inches in length, with most getting bigger. Might be tight in a 20 long, and they'd still be a threat in a larger tank.

4 inch is the average, though some do get quite larger. But Like I said, if ur breeding them avoid the catfish. Also avoid other cichlids. they will eat the fry too. If you want to bre4ed them, keep them by themselves.

Sometime around christmas I'm getting a 37 tank, and I'm super excited. Seeing as the fish won't outgrow the ten gallon in that amount of time, I bought a Eupterus catfish.
