I forgot to mention that my substrate is a layer of soil about an inch deep covered in a layer of sand that is about 1/2 an inch deep.  The fish, snail, shrimp, etc can not dig too deep or they will cause the soil to rise and make a mess.  Thanks.

I have a similiar substrate of 1 1/2 soil covered by 1 in of gravel. The trumpets do not seem to stir up the soil in this setup. Sand i am not sure, but i think it should be the same.

GREAT!  I will have to look into the Assassin Snail to seem how it will do with the Trumpet Snail.  Maybe I will find some other "thing" to eat the baby snails.  I pretty sure the betta will eat some of the babies, but I don't think it will be about to eat them all.  I also remember that puffers like to eat snails so the Pea Puffer came to mind.  However, I know that there was something bad about them, but I cannot remember what it is.  I will have to look through my books and magazines to see.  Thanks!

I have done some research and I have found out that Assassin Snails will burrow through the sand just like Trumpet Snails.  They also are not hermaphrodites like other snails so they will not over populate an aquarium as quickly as other snails.  I tried to figure out if they will eat Trumpet Snails but everyone seems to have different answers.  Some say they will and some say they won't if the snail is bigger than the Assassin Snail.  I think I will try 3-4 Assassin Snails, and if they don't work then I will try some Trumpet Snails.  Thanks!

Could I add 4 pygmy cories or would that be too much?  Thanks.
