| Hi. I live in Regina, Saskatchewan and was looking for some plants that could overwinter in the pond. Problem is, the ponds average depth is 8 inches, and the deepest part is 12-14 inches. It would surely freeze from top to bottom, so I would like to know my choices. Thanks.

I think you are in zone 3. Your hard winters will more than likely freeze your pond solid even if you cover it. I guess there are some situations where it might not freeze but I wouldn't bet on it. You need hardy plants and have to keep the roots from freezing. Pretty tough to do with such a shallow pond. Why not bring them inside? What do you do with your fish? I can help if you want some suggestions for shallow water plants that you will bring inside.

| I bring my fish in the winter, or else they would look like they came from the ice age lol. Yes I am okay with bringing in plants, but they got to be ones that go dormant, like hardy water lilies. I just don't have the money or resources for plant lights. Btw my pond is oval in shape; 7 feet at its longest, 6 feet at its widest, so I don't have a lot of space.
