I will be starting a 75-gallon tank that I want to heavily plant.  Before I plant the stemmed plants I want to establish and have spread foreground plants that are 2" or so in height.  My local stores do not have a very good selection of plants in general so I want to look at companies on the internet.  Can anyone suggest some companies you have had success with and also some low-growing plants that spread to form a lawn like area?

Glossostigma elatinoides grows about an inch high and is an excellent carpet plant. I explained how to do it in my November 2011 Aquabotanist column. Your tank sounds like it is going to be very nice. Good luck!

I forgot to mention that you can special order plants from many locally owned pet shops.  Give them a written list of you need and I'm sure they will include your list the next time they place an order.

If I was you. I would see if a good aquarium store has some nice plants for sale. This way it will save in shipping cost.

Here is where I got my plants:

http://shop.plantedaquariumscentral.com/

All the plants I received were awesome, except for the stargrass, which had half of its leaves dead. However I suspect this is because the package was sitting on my front porch for a few hours. All the roots were 120% healthy which allowed them to adjust to my tank very quickly. All of the stem plants had lots of roots growing on the stem. The plants have been in my tank for 2 days and are now pearling.
